OpenSourcerer aka Tech Jedi Alex

Self-hoster, programmer, opensourcerer – that's how I would've liked to start my self-description. Sadly, I may be self-hosting practically everything, and I do call myself an open source enthusiast, but I'm not (yet?) at the stage to call myself a programmer, so no GitHub/GitLab/Forgejo links with tons of contributions to show.

Anyhow, I am OpenSorcerer aka Tech Jedi Alex, a 30-ish computer scientist from Northern Germany (around Hannover). It may sound cool, that computer scientist, but all I do is wring with server applications for private and enterprise, do troubleshooting and provide support. I also do Ansible and automate things with it and Bash on Linux and PowerShell on Windows.

The reason why all that may not sound exciting in the IT department could be because my activities are focused a bit outside of it (no pun intended): I read a lot on my Kobo Elipsa, especially Japanese media. I play golf. I drive my motorbike places. And I may pick up yet another sport in the near future, so really, there is no time for me to pick up programming as well. Or to write my own Zola template for my website.

Tech stack and name

Speaking of which, this website is built with Zola using the Hermit_Zola theme, hosted with Caddy on Arch Linux, at Alwyzon in Vienna, Austria. Analytics are Offen Fair Web Analytics, comments are Isso, both hosted on the same server. Everything is configured for data economy: For example, Caddy's log level is "error", and Offen doesn't save IP addresses or user agent strings, only the number of visitors on which pages. Take a look yourself:

Fair web analytics

I came up with the name FOSSFed while on vacation in Turkey. There I was, lying on a beach chair, around 11 am, already 36°C, the Mediterranean Sea stretching out before me. I was reading a Light Novel, listening to Tsumugi Radio – and thinking of hosting federated software publically, separately from my own software under a different domain. So, federated FOSS -> FedFOSS, doesn't sound too nice, but reverse that -> FOSSFed. Though. I dismissed the plan upon sensing that it might take up excessive time to moderate it all, and somehow I couldn't be bothered to do it, and instead migrated the personal software to fossfed.eu.

So, yeah, thank you for your visit, and for reading!
